5 Elements Of Multimedia

Text

• Words and symbols in any form, spoken or written, are the most common means of communication.
• Texts in the form of words, sentences and paragraphs is used to communicate thoughts, ideas and facts in nearly every aspect of our lives.
• Text is a vital element of multimedia menus, navigation systems, and content.
• Multimedia products depends on text for many things: to explain how the application work, to guide the user in navigating through the application,  deliver the information for which the application was designed.                                                                                                                          

Audio

• Vibrations in the air create waves of pressure that are perceived as sound.
• Sound comprises the spoken word, voices, music and even noise.
• Sound waves vary in sound pressure level (amplitude) and in frequency or pitch.
• 'Acoustics’ is the branch of physics that studies sound.
• Sound pressure levels (loudness or volume) are measured in decibels (dB).

Video

• Video, like sound, is recorded and played an as analog signal.
• Analog video must be digitized in order for it to put into a multimedia file.
• Digital video has many advantages, but file size is important.
• Several elements determine file size: - Frame rate,  - Image size,  - Color depth

Graphic

• Graphic make the multimedia application attractive. they help to illustrate ideas through still pictures.
• There are two types of graphics used: bitmaps (paint graphics) -> bitmaps images are real images that can be captured from devices such as cameras and scanners - vector (draw graphics) -> vector graphics are drawn on the computer and only require a small amount of memory.

Animation

Animation is a process of making a static image look like it is moving. In multimedia, digital animation is used. Digital animation can be categorised into two broad area: 2D (2 Dimension) and 3D (3 Dimension) animations. 2D animation refers to creating movements in basic objects. These objects are put into various situations or positions and have movement on the screen. 3D animation refers creating movements to three dimensional digital objects from photographs. Movements like spinning and flying across the screen are some samples of animations.
